Industry Partnerships & Bodies
There are a number of partners who can help provide useful initial contacts and introductions to support networks.
Isle of Man Finance Partnership
The Isle of Man Finance Partnership is a hybrid body consisting of Government and industry reps to lead the development of the financial services sectors in the Isle of Man. The Partnership is led by Mike Hennessy, current CEO of the Chamber of Commerce.
Its core focus is creating sales opportunities for the Isle of Man finance sector, whether supporting those on the Island or assisting them promoting overseas. It will have a key role in generating inward investment into the Island in the Finance Sector.
Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce
The Isle of Man’s Chamber of Commerce is the major representative business organisation in the Isle of Man.
With over 300 members it represents businesses of all sizes from the diverse range of sectors that operate here.
Additionally, there are several committees which report in to the main Chamber Council. These cover construction, employment and training, finance, ICT/e-Business, Manufacturing, retail and transport.
The Chamber’s aim is to assist in the development of businesses on the Isle of Man and so works very closely with the Isle of Man Government in a number of areas, epitomising one of the Isle of Man’s key attributes – the strong relationship between public and private sectors.
Two key examples of this are the Isle of Man Finance Partnership and the Isle of Man Aerospace Cluster, where Chamber members and members of the Department of Economic Development work directly together to further the financial services and aerospace sectors respectively.
Isle of Man Aerospace Cluster
The Isle of Man Aerospace Cluster (IOMAC) was formed in 2006 by the Isle of Man Government and Isle of Man Chamber of Commerce to provide a formal support structure for the Island's aerospace sector to move forward in the pursuit of worldwide recognition and world class standards.
The Cluster is involved with Airbus, BAE Systems, Boeing, NASA and Rolls-Royce to help deliver projects such as the A380, 787 and A400M, Joint Strike Fighter, Typhoon, plus the Astute submarine and Phoenix Mars Lander. Supported by the Isle of Man Government, Cluster members have invested in lean cellular manufacture as well as flexible manufacturing systems and research and development capability.
This complements the Cluster's existing world class capabilities in aerospace design, jig and fixture manufacture, project management and ‘stranger and alien’ packages. It has thrived because of its agile and adaptable nature.
Since inception the Cluster has achieved a great deal:
- Joint purchasing agreements for all the members
- Delivery of a skills and awareness programme for schools to explain the opportunities an engineering career offer
- Created an innovative new aerospace apprenticeship scheme to update the Island’s training provision
- Formed a strategic partnership with the North West Aerospace Alliance
- Tendered for design and manufactured packages of work with global aerospace primes
